History

A Brief History

1 Community Project (1CP) was established in 2011 in response to the high demand of local parents and guardians wanting positive activities, educational opportunities and support for young people in a safe environment. Over the years, we have continued to be responsive to the changing needs of the local community.
We have set up innovative and effective projects namely the Youth Link Project that works with single sex groups, one male and one female group aged 8-19 and up to 25 with those with SEN or disabilities. Our core programme is delivered during the weekend throughout the whole year including term times and holiday period. The 1 Community Youth Link Project works under the ethos of ‘1 community’ and make best endeavours to ensure that the project allows all members of the community to benefit. This project is truly unique as it has a diverse, young and experienced youth work team that are from various professional backgrounds that bring different benefits to the project. Furthermore, our work allows young people from different backgrounds to socialise in a safe environment and understand each other’s cultures. At the end of the day, it is all about the young people and we aim to always provide what all young people want most – FUN!

Aims

The aim of 1CP is to bring together different cultural and religious communities in Lewisham under the ‘1 Community’ umbrella, for better cohesion and greater community interaction resulting in improved tolerance. We aim do to this primarily through young people and then through their parents and other adults, through social and leisure activities and also through educational based workshop to enhance development and nurture talent.
